CACIQUE'97 is a afrobeat collectivet with Mozambican and Portuguese origins, twelve experienced musicians that integrate several bands of reference, in distinct musical genres.
The Fela Kuti and Tony Allen´s passion for music joined these twelve musicians with a common goal: create a collective that mirrored the mixture of Lisbon, crossing the Afro-beat, rhythm characteristic of Nigeria, with the musical tradition of the Portuguese speaking countries in Africa and Brazil.
The Cacique'97 want to give rise to a soundtrack of global new times without losing the hand being drummed and promotion of social awareness, characteristic of Afro-beat.
The debut album namesake in format CD + vinyl 7" published in 2009, was the first album of Afro-beat made in Portugal, he brought great criticism in national and international press and was considered one of the albums of the year in Portugal.
With so vibrant and interventional warm sounding and a contagious energy and pace on stage, the orchestra of twelve elements have captivated audiences and their number of fans has been growing, asserting the CACIQUE´97 as one of the most innovative and important bands of Afro-beat at Europe level.
